Richard F. Taylor, 92 of Middlefield, a lifelong resident of Geauga County, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018 at Briar Hill Care Center. He was born April 22, 1926 in Bainbridge to the late Virgil and Caroline (Yaxley) Taylor. Richard, Dick to his family and friends, graduated from Bainbridge High School. He enlisted in the Army at the age of seventeen and was a veteran of WWII. After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from Ohio State University, he worked in the agribusiness field before returning to Geauga county in 1968. He managed the Burton office of Warren Production Credit Association, until he and his wife, Roma, became full time antique dealers and promoters of antique shows. Together they managed the Antique Market at the Geauga County fairgrounds for 35 years. Richard was a member of the International Farm Youth Exchange, a former Maple Festival Chairman, and former Treasurer and life member of the Geauga Fair Board.
In his younger years he was a member of the Geauga County Fair Band. His love for antiques led to his active involvement in the Geauga County Historical Society & Century Village Museum. In recent years, Richard spent time at the Middlefield Senior Center where he became interested in Rug Hooking. He found a new talent and creativity in rug hooking and enjoyed making rugs and wall hangings for his family and friends which he often displayed at the Geauga County Fair.
He will be sadly missed by his children, Julie (Bruce) Ewing of Auburn, Jon (Susan) Taylor of Burton, Jamie Taylor of Aurora, grandchildren, Caitlin Ewing, Patrick Ewing, TJ Ewing, Daniel (Stephanie) Taylor, Kimberly Taylor, and Emily Taylor. Great Grandchildren, Henry and Archer Taylor. He is survived by his sisters, Marion Howard and Carol Malz. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Roma Taylor who passed away December 11, 2007.
Memorial Calling hours will be held Friday, July 20, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Russell-Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W High St, Middlefield, OH 44062. A Private burial will take place at a later date in Restland Cemetery, Bainbridge, Ohio In addition to flowers memorial donation can be made to the Middlefield Senior Center, 15820 Ridgewood Dr, Middlefield, OH 44062
