Lt. Col. Frank James Koller Jr., 96 of Burton, passed away at his home Saturday August 18, 2018. He was born April 15, 1922 in Cleveland to the late Frank and Elizabeth Mary (Sedlacek) Koller. He graduated from Parkman High School in 1940. Frank fostered a love for airplanes and enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942. He proudly served in the US Air Force for over 22 years where he flew sorties, in his P 47"Thunderbolt", during WWII over Southern France and Italy. He flew 78 wartime missions and was honorably discharged in 1965. During his service he returned home to marry the love of his life, Edith L. (Marks) Koller July 14, 1946., married 56 loving years before she passed away in 2002.. Frank was a member of the Burton American Legion Post #459. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and bowling. He worked for Fritinger Lumber for 15 years and then for Paul’s Lumber until he retired 3 years later.
He will be sadly missed by his children, Frank (Diana) Koller III of W. Farmington, Gary (Kathey) Koller of Burton, Glenn Koller of Michigan, Mark Koller of Burton, Nancy Koller of Burton, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a sister, Betty Gentile and a brother, Ray “Skip” Koller, and son-in-law Jeff Peck of Conneaut. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Edith, daughter, Debra Peck, son, David “Skip” Koller, and his brothers, James and Robert Koller.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday August 22, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at Russell-Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St, Middlefield, OH 44062. A Celebration of his life will be held 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home Thursday, August 23, 2018. Burial will follow the service in Middlefield Cemetery.
