Marvin J. Sugerman of Burton, Ohio died Thursday, July 20, at his home.

Marvin was born October 22, 1929 in Cleveland to Charles and Rose (Gershowitz) Sugerman. He graduated from Cleveland Heights High then attended The Ohio State University for three years where he was a member of Phi Sigma Delta and ROTC. As a child, he attended Heights Temple and later was a member of Fairmount Temple.

Marvin married Margaret (Peggy) Pfenniger Singer on April 1, 1951. They raised a family in Lyndhurst and Shaker Heights. For 40 years, Marvin worked for and became owner of the Broadway Supply Company in Cleveland. After closing Broadway Supply, Marvin and Peggy became part owners in Burton’s Riverside restaurant, where they worked as cooks for 20 years. They bought a farm in Burton and moved there in 1983. Marvin was an avid gardener who was known for growing and giving away apples, vegetables and flowers.

His family will remember him for his humor, candor and the Jewish values he instilled in them. He loved frequenting local bakeries, delis, and surprising his family with treats.

Surviving Marvin are his wife of 66 years, his three children and spouses; Brian (Barb) Sugerman of Wooster, Danny (Debbie) Sugerman of Fairview Park, and Denise (Don) Koehn of Burton. He leaves behind five grandchildren; Amanda and Lisa Koehn, Holly (Brian) Bird, Ivan (Cassie) Sugerman and Paul (Raina Speidel) Jones, and one great grandson, Lucas Bird.

A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 30 at the Red Maple Inn in Burton for friends and family. Russell-Sly Funeral Home in Middlefield is assisting with arrangements.
