Cecil Oscar Potter Jr., 73, of Middlefield passed away at Geauga Hospital in ICU, Wednesday February 21, 2018. He was born January 15, 1945, son of Cecil and Mary K. (Sharman) Potter. Oscar was a member of the Chardon Church of Latter Day Saints, the Masons, the Shriners, the American Legion, and Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a senior chief. As a proud member of the Navy Seals, Cecil was instrumental in helicopter rescues during the Viet Nam war and he received a Life Saving Rescue medal for saving a choking child. He ran marathons, and coached soccer teams for youth groups in his community and will be dearly missed.
Cecil is survived by his loving wife Kathryn, to whom he was married for 50 years, his sons Cecil(Dana) Potter, William Potter, James Potter, and daughters Laurie Potter, Goldie (Thomas) Hope, and Mary (Steve) Arnold; his sisters Glenna Potter, and Glenda Wells; 22 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Charles Potter, and a sister Cecilia Asher.
