Althea May "Butch" (Askew) Reed

Althea May "Butch" Reed, 91 a lifelong resident of Middlefield, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at Manchester Health Care in Manchester, TN. She was born on July 28, 1926 in Middlefield, daughter of Byron and Mildred (Little) Askew. She was a 1944 graduate of Middlefield High School. In her earlier years, she worked for the Navy as a payroll clerk in Civil Service. She married Zane Reed June 15, 1946. They were married 46 years before he died in 1993. She enjoyed raising her two sons and daughter. She also was a secretary for Ted Reed Jr. Accounting Department. Althea was a member of the Middlefield Senior Center. She was a kind-hearted person and enjoyed playing cards, gardening, fishing, crossword puzzles, and cooking. She especially enjoyed being with her friends and family.

Althea is survived by her loving children, Kenneth (Renee) Reed of Orwell and Judy (Bill) Gawrys of Manchester, TN; nine grandchildren; and numerous great and great- great grandchildren. She is preceeded in death by her husband Zane; her parents; her son James Reed; her sister Marquerite Gardner and her twin infant sister Alta.

Calling hours will be 10:00 AM until the Celebration of her life at 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Russell-Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 West High St., Middlefield, Ohio 44062. Burial will follow at Middlefield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Middlefield VFW Post 9678.
